The Superficial Can Weigh Very Heavily on Us

by Michael Berry on November 24, 2014

WorryThe superficial can weigh very heavily on us due to how we perceive ourselves and our current circumstances. Much of what we see in advertising shows people winning in life because they have the right car, the right clothes, are very attractive, outgoing, you name it. Most people, most of the time, can’t compete at a high level in these types of superficial games, and if they can they have a limited window of opportunity to do so. This immediately creates two things. It keeps many people from striving toward what their hearts and souls desire – the real success that makes a life worth living. And it also can have a dramatically negative impact on someone whose time frame has closed on them. For these individuals the old means of getting what they wanted out of life just isn’t working for them any more.
The end result is that anything that seems like a threat draws one’s attention in a big way. After enough failures, one stops trying and the attention is fixated on failure. These are the mechanics of mediocrity, shrinking, retreat, the lower self and the small game. Human beings long for something much deeper than these types of superficial games. What we are addressing is the secret to creating and controlling a successful life, and it isn’t subject to the whim of others or circumstance.
This is acting on purpose.
Personal development is our business and our life.

In personal development we learn that “we all see and experience the world not as it is, but as we are”.
