“Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course…the space between your ears.” Bobby Jones Why wouldn’t you think that the Game of Life is played the same way. I’m living proof that it is.
This is a great clip from “The Legend of Bagger Vance“. It’s truly about personal development. There is a perfect shot trying to find each and everyone of us, all we have to do is to get out of our own way and let it choose us. Don’t think about it just feel it.

Hi Michael:
Awesome illustration! All of life challenges are really a battle of the mind.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin. I love this part of the film.
Michael
Wow! What a great series of posts! I LOVE The Legend of Bagger Vance movie. Such subtle yet profound wisdom. I like your analogy of life being like golf. I am planning on golfing a lot more often this year, but in the meantime, I am living life in the present.
Great Buddy I’m glad you enjoyed it. Visualize your life before you.
Michael
What a great analogy! I remember this movie and it is all about belief in your SELF! The game of life is the same. We have to believe in ourselves and perfect ourselves constantly to win in the game.
Thanks,
Donna Merrill
Yes I believe it to be a perfect analogy Donna. Thanks for your comments.
Michael
That’s a pretty cool analogy, Michael! I love word pictures, and this is even better. I especially like the quote you used, because it’s a strong reminder of what I need to remember… that what happens in MY life is a result of what I focus on.
Willena Flewelling
Yes Willena you create what you focus on. You got it.
Michael
Michael, You make me want to watch the whole movie! I’m thinking all of life is played between our ears. It all boils down to…We are what we think about. I like this quote: “There is a thought in your mind right now. The longer you hold on to it, the more you dwell upon it, the more life you give to that thought. Give it enough life, and it will become real. So make sure the thought is indeed a great one.” ~Ralph Martson
Great post!
Lynn
I love that quote Lynn. It sums up this video very well. Thanks for your comments.
Michael
I love this post.
I play golf and I have always said how you are on the golf course is how you
are in life.
This movie was such a great analogy.
Thanks for sharing Michael.
You’re welcome and thanks for your comments.
Michael
If only I had a caddy like that when I was playing competitive golf. This is a wonderful analogy. Yes, you can learn a lot of things from golf and apply them in your life. The “feeling” they talk about in golf has very much to do with believing and trusting in yourself. When you start to doubt and let negative thoughts in, the “bad shots” occur. Thanks for the video clip. I don’t think I’ve watched this movie before.
Yes a caddy like that would be wonderful. You should see the entire movie, there are other clips in this movie that are just as powerful and of course you get the entire story. Thanks for your comments Lian.
Michael
I love The Legend of Bagger Vance. Being a golfer, truer words were never said about golf/life being played between the ears. And just like golf, life is a game that you always need to work on.
Thanks for the great clip and great analogy.
Debbie
You’re welcome Debbie and thank you. Yes we all need to work on ourselves every day.
Michael
This is so true Michael we can have all the skills we want but the wind in the sails is the proper and unwavering belief it can be done.
That is one of my favorite movies that and The Greatest Game I loved that one as well at the end it tells about how the characters fared in life.
The little underage caddy grew up to be a millionaire. Not bad.
Steve
Thanks for the reminder of that movie. I have not seen it yet.
Michael
Hi Michael,
So true Golf as with most games is played in your head.
With the right attitude we can achieve so much in our game and the all important game of life.
I am constantly amazed at what visualisation can do to the real product.
(Not sure if I explained this so you know what i am talking about.)
Great Post Michael.
Cheers
Bryan
I understand what you’re talking about in the visualization bit. If you can visualize it you can create it. Sorry for the lateness of my response, been on a combination business and vacation for a week in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Michael
And thank you Howie. Sorry for the lateness of my response, been on a combination business and vacation for a week in Mazatlan, Mexico. Yes getting out of your own way is a biggie.
Michael
At last, you have touched the most significant side of the game of golf. What you think, you are, or will become. In life, as in golf, confidence is 75% of a person’s attitude toward the game. All of practicing is designed to instill confidence. As Henry Ford once said whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, in either case you are right.
Yes John I love that Henry Ford quote. Isn’t life fun and exciting when you discover this?
